Forgetful Heart

Forgetful Heart: remembering God in a distracted world is published by Darton, Longman and Todd. It comes from the personal perspective of my own spiritual forgetfulness, but reflects that, from a biblical perspective, we are called to remember the God we profess to serve and the gospel we are to proclaim.

I confess – I’m horribly forgetful. But I don’t just forget the ordinary things of life– I forget who I am and who I was made to be. I forget God and all that he has done in my life.

Remembering – actively recalling – what God has done is an important theme of the bible, but in an age of distraction our attention is often divided. But what we remember is part of our identity – as people and as Christians. What happens when we don’t recall what God has done for us? And how can we get better at remembering?

This is a beautiful book, so relevant for our times… I thoroughly recommend this outstanding book by a writer with a great future. This is the sort of spiritual writing that we really need in 2014.” – David Moloney, Editorial Director at Darton, Longman and Todd.

I suggest that to ‘remember’ God is not merely about having knowledge in our minds but is an active principle – impacting character and action both in ourselves, in our relationships and in the wider world. By looking at the importance of remembering while recognising the commonness of forgetting, the book aims to challenge, encourage and resource its readers so that they can reflect more deeply and remember in a way that changes how they live out a life of faith in a forgetful world.
