Blaze of Glory

This is one of my favourite pieces and the first I am featuring here on my website in a showcase post, which I started doing on my Instagram account.

Blaze of Glory is an abstract acrylic on canvas. My first piece to be featured in an exhibition , this is a colourful, striking piece conjuring ideas of sun and sea… with the fiery red sky that is a feature of various pieces of my work.

This took a lot of time and reworking, going through many stages. Initially it was something far more clumsy, trying too hard to get the effect I wanted – then I started allowing the work to go where it wanted and suddenly it was no longer “hmmm” but “wow!”.

I adore this piece. At the time it was the biggest piece I had ever done – despite being small compared to many canvases out there! It was quite scary to start painting. So glad I did – and that I didn’t give up when it wasn’t working.
